AAARGH

Ok, I'm not sure what's going on but I really want to either scream, cry or hit something. I am so supremely irritated/annoyed/pissed off that I can hardly hold it in. It hasn't been any one thing today, just general annoyance. I've noticed that I've been like this more and more lately. I'm ok when I first get to work-smiling and all- but by 11am or so I'm so pissed off I could scream. I think part of it is a certain person I work with. Wait, more like I work she doesn't do a damn thing. She might be "working" on something while a line of patients grows as I try frantically to check them all in and she won't even offer to help. She disappears for hours at a time and doesn't even do much when she's at the desk. It really enrages me. Our supervisor doesn't seem to mind/notice that this person doesn't do anything, in fact, the two of them shoot the breeze for hours (during the work day!) and it doesn't seem to occurr to supervisor that if my co-worker is in her office shooting the shit, she clearly can't be working at the same time. Who get's in trouble if something isn't done right b/c I'm up to my eyeballs in work? Me of course, while co-worker sits and gossips with other co-workers.

While I'm at it, let me just say that yes, it's criminal that the doctors allow there to be four patients seen in a fifteen minute period and of course they'll never manage to stay on schedule, but I hate it when the patients bitch at me about how late the doctor is running just because I'm the one sitting here at the check-in desk. I don't schedule patients. I don't have anything to do with how many people they see nor do I have any control over the doctors. In fact, they don't even know I'm alive--i'm akin to gum on the bottom of their overpriced loafers. I understand that the patients have better things to do than wait for hours at the doctor's office but I wish they wouldn't bitch at me--bitch at someone that can do something about the problem. Tell the bloody doctor that you're pissed off waiting for an hour and a half. Oh, but, nooo, they can't possibly complain to the doctor, for god's sake, he's got M.D. after his name. Nope, better to bitch at the people that can't do a damn thing about the problem. Yeah, so that pisses me off.

It also pisses me off when patients just drop in and expect to be seen without an appointment. I mean, if it hurts that badly, go to the freaking emergency room! Don't just drop into the office. It screws everything up and gets into the situation of my rant above. It also pisses me off when other people (nurses, doctors etc.) tell a patient to come in but then don't tell the scheduler, so the appointment doesn't get made and I look like a moron when the patient shows up and says they have an appt but it isn't in the computer. For god's sake! Follow through on what you started!! Sheesh.

One final irritating situation. Ok, so our doctor is running late, but you can only complain about how long you've been waiting once your appointment time had passed. If you get here an hour early, you can't bitch about waiting an hour. You can bitch beginning one minute after your scheduled appointment time, but not a second sooner.

Usually I have much more patience than this but I'm not sure what's going on now. I have no tolerance for idiots, people that don't do their job and people that treat me like shit and expect me to take it. If I didn't need this paycheck I'd tell everyone to go f*$@ off.

Yeah, it's one of those days.
